Haley's Birthday Cake

Happy 10th Birthday Haley! March 6th was Haley’s 10th birthday and she is getting older every day. We had a great time for her birthday party and had one of her friends stay the night. Haley didn’t get a large party with a bunch of friends this time because we bought her a TV and put satellite service in her room. She’s been asking about this for some time and we decided to go ahead and do it. Interestingly, she has not been a hermit in her room since there is a TV in it. Haley has been very responsible and does not abuse the privilege.

Basketball season ended and so did our last stint as coaches. It was a very challenging season, as previous posts have mentioned. Nevertheless, both girls seemed to have a great time and will likely play next go around. Haley really has stepped up in her sports play. Between her and her friend, they scored nearly every basket this season. Something seems to have changed for Haley in that she is really putting forth the effort to play. We have to caution her that she needs to pass, but we’re pleased to see her really go all out at her games. She is also playing soccer through her school and softball on a club team. In both sports, she is giving equal effort. Couldn’t be more pleased!

Haley Skiing

As is typical of March for the Morgan Family, we did something special for Spring Break. A couple of years ago, we went to San Diego, last year was spent in Cancun, and this year we went to the mountains to ski! It was the first attempt at skiing for Liz, Haley, and Brianna. They all seemed to enjoy it, but Brianna was a little more crazy than the rest. Most of the time, she pointed her skis downhill and took off. Haley and Liz spent a little more time perfecting the basics, but by the end of the trip they were navigating the practice runs quite nicely! I did a few runs by myself–it’s been 20 years since I last went skiing. I only yard-saled once so felt reasonably good about that. We all had fun and will likely get setup with season passes next winter. Yes, we’re likely to become “one of those Colorado families” who ski.

One of my friends on my hockey team let us use his condo in Silverthorne (near Keystone and Breckenridge) and gave us a great rate. We also leveraged another hockey friend’s job and got our skis comped for several days. That really saved us some dough on the trip. We’re probably going to get skis for Liz and I in the Fall and do some sort of rental program for the kids. We skied Keystone during our trip and it seems like the resort was great for starting out. All of us took a private lesson the first day (costly, but necessary) and just enjoyed being on the mountain. Lift tickets are a rip-off when purchasing them for a family of four so next time we will look for better deals (like the aforementioned season pass).

As is typical of vacations, we ate like crap. There was a restaurant in Silverthorne we went to called The Mint. We were ready for a steak dinner and got settled into our booth to be served some nice cuts. Needless to say, The Mint is a “grill your own food” establishment. We were a little perturbed because we were looking for a place that waited on you. Oh well, we made the best of it and the food came out pretty decent. Lesson learned…

Other than that, we had a typical month. Everyone is still working and going to school (parents and kids alike). We get into the full swing of softball for Haley and soccer for both kids in April. That’s about it! Hope you enjoy the pictures and until next month…have a good one!
